The ABC Commercial Construction Prep Academy (ABC), 11837 Technology Lane, Fishers, held a paid internship and full-time employment signing day event last Thursday, May 15.
ABC is a program for high school juniors and seniors offering them comprehensive instruction and training in construction trades. The program is designed to allow students to graduate with intermediate skills, credentials and employability. ABC, being a member-led organization, allows them to maintain a 100 percent job placement rate for students who want to continue in the construction trade after completing the program.

“We’ll work with our companies to ensure they can interview and connect with the right people,” Community Outreach Director Robert Kneberg said. “And ABC has lots of companies to pull from that want to hire students.”
One graduating student, Jase Ruggles, is committed to working at Design & Build Electrical Engineering and Contractors Inc.

“It really introduces you to all the different aspects like plumbing, electrical, carpentry,” Ruggles said. “It kind of gives you an option to pick which one you want to learn and pursue.”
Beyond the technical training offered to students, ABC emphasizes professional development in their curriculum.
“In addition to the actual instruction, we bring in a lot of work ethic, because we don’t just want to get you hired, we want to make sure that you stay with the company, grow with the company,” Kneberg said.
The signing day featured students being recognized on stage with the announcement of the company they will be working or interning with. Many ABC members were in attendance to congratulate and welcome the students they hired.
“We want to celebrate those students and have their parents here, all our supporters, our school officials, our state and local representatives here, to congratulate those students for their success,” Kneberg said.
