Monday baseball: Westfield wins at No. 8 Pendleton Heights

Westfield hit the road on Monday for a tough battle in Madison County with Class 4A No. 9 Pendleton Heights. After five consecutive losses, the Shamrocks came away with a 5-2 win over the Arabians.

Nick Fero walked to lead off the second and scored the first run on a single to left from Ian Wilson.

Pendleton Heights tied the game at 1-1 on Ty Frakes double to right.

The ‘Rocks took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. With Caden Lindsey at the plate, Lincoln Hoffman scored on wild pitch.

Ethan Colling and Matt Drozlek were both hit by pitches consecutively to start the fifth. Beck Jordan doubled to center, scoring Colling’s courtesy runner Jake Russell to make it 3-1. Fero hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Drozlek for a 4-1 advantage.

Colin Axel-Adams cut the Westfield lead in half at 4-2 with a single that scored Frakes.

The Shamrocks added an insurance run in the top of the sixth. Ian Wilson scored on a wild pitch for the final of 5-2 with Colling up to bat.

Pendleton Heights was held in-check over their final two innings at the plate, securing the road win for Westfield.

Ian Wilson had two of the four hits for the ‘Rocks. Wilson, Fero and Jordan each had an RBI.

Hamilton Southeastern picked up a Monday victory at Lawrence North 4-2.

The Royals got on the board with two runs in the third inning. Trey McManama led off with a double and scored on Maddux Bach’s RBI groundout. Jackson Bixler later scored on a passed ball.

The Wildcats got a run back in the fourth inning, but Southeastern let them get no closer. The Royals added two runs in the top of the fifth: Parker O’Steen doubled in Bach, then Michael Hoog’s center field hit brought in Bixler.

O’Steen had two hits, while Cy Cole smacked a fourth-inning triple. Johann Dierker pitched 5.2 innings for the win, striking out five. Nate McGrath and Spencer Mohr finished the game with no hits.

Southeastern is 9-12 and hosts Noblesville Thursday to begin an HCC series with the Millers. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
