The U.S. Olympic swim trials will return to Indianapolis in 2028 with Lucas Oil Stadium hosting the event.
The trials will determine the USA swim team for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. City leaders confirmed the venue, which previously hosted the trials, emphasizing its role in preparing athletes for the Olympics.
“When we considered where to host the 2028 trials, we knew that once again all lanes lead to Indy. This is where Olympic dreams come true,” Interim CEO of USA Swimming Bob Vincent said.
The 2024 swim trials set attendance records with over 285,000 fans and generated an economic impact of more than $132 million for Indianapolis. Vincent expressed excitement about returning to Lucas Oil, “For many, Lucas Oil Stadium will offer a familiar space. Securing our host location now allows us to build training plans with confidence and best prepares our athletes to dominate the LA28 Games in SoFi Stadium.”
USA Swimming and the Indiana Sports Corp will continue Legacy Projects, a program that aims to expand access to swimming education and water safety in underserved communities.
“Swim and Safety Day presented by Lilly, will be held on June 15, offering free pool access at five IndyPark pools. This is a program that we will continue beyond 2024 and through 2028,” Patrick Talty, president of Indiana Sports Corp, said.
The Indiana Convention Center will host the Toyota Aqua Zone for fans alongside the return of the USA Swimming House and a city-wide festival to celebrate the USA swim trials.
With the return of the swim trials to Indianapolis, the city is poised to make a significant impact once again on the swimming community and local economy. “We are hoping to do it again and do it even better,” Vincent said.
